18 named to Fall Academic All-Conference team

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Student-athletes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) continue to achieve in both athletics and in the classroom. On Wednesday, the MIAC announced its Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2022-23 fall semester, which included a record 781 student-athletes. The previous fall-sport high was 779, set in the 2021-22 academic year. Of those 781 student-athletes, St. Catherine University named 18 Wildcats from cross country, soccer and volleyball to the prestigious list.

In order to qualify for Academic All-MIAC status, student-athletes must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors by academic standards with a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students must also have completed one full-time academic year at their current institution prior to becoming eligible for the honor.

To meet the athletic qualifications, an individual must be a member of a MIAC-sponsored varsity sports team, be academically and athletically eligible, have utilized a season of participation per NCAA and MIAC definitions, and have remained on the sports roster through the conclusion of the sports season in order to be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors.

The total number of Academic All-MIAC honorees for fall sports has increased every year since 2011. Football led all fall sports this year with a record 186 honorees - up 12 from a season ago. Women's soccer finished one shy of its sport record with 158 honorees in 2022. Women's cross country had 119 honorees - the same number as the previous Fall and five shy of its sport record of 124 - while men's soccer and volleyball each had 115 honorees in 2022, just short of their respective all-time highs set a season ago at 119 and 118, respectively. Men's cross country had 88 honorees this fall, third-most in the sport's history and two shy of its record of 90.

The 2022-23 MIAC Academic All-Conference fall-sport honorees can be found here, classified alphabetically first by sport, then institution. Winter- and spring-sport Academic All-MIAC honorees will be announced in June. To see all-time honorees, please visit the MIAC Academic All-Conference archives.
