MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine tennis team won their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoff match since the 2014 season with a 5-1 defeat of the No. 6 seed College of Saint Benedict Bennies.
St. Kate's swept doubles play with senior
Bri Dorr and junior
Monica Zink finishing first with a 8-1 win at No. 2. Junior
Kelsey Dorr and
Sofia Walker finished second with an 8-4 win at No. 1 and junior
Elsa Joly and senior
Reilee Schepper played at No. 3 edging out the Bennies 8-4.
In singles, the Bennies claimed a point early at No. 3 defeating B. Dorr 6-2, 6-4. K. Dorr scored the Wildcats fourth point of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 and
Sofia Walker clinched the match for St. Kate's at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
The final three matches were unfinished as the playoff matches concede after a team reached five points. At No. 4 singles, Joly was halted at 6-5, 4-4, Schepper was at 6-4, 4-6 at No. 5, and Zink was at 6-2, 4-3 playing No. 6.
St. Kate's will travel to Northfield on Thursday for a semifinal match scheduled for 3:30 pm against Carleton.
