ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University swimming and diving team finished the Roger Ahlman Invitational at Macalester College on Saturday evening with a team score of 749, good for second place. The Wildcats secured eleven lifetime best times on Saturday with six top times. Fifth-year
Jordyn Wentzel highlighted day two securing two lifetime best finishes, including securing a program and MIAC record in the 400-yard individual medley. Over the course of the weekend, Wentzel also swam three NCAA B standard times.
The day was broken into two sessions with the morning session opening with the 200-yard medley relay and the team of
Annie Voss,
Jordyn Wentzel,
Emma Svendsen, and
Gillian Durand registering the top-time with a time of 1:47.48.
Svendsen went on to take the title in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.57 followed by Voss as the runner-up with a time of 59.09.
Wentzel claimed the top time in the 400-yard IM finishing at 4:17.50 with the top-time in Division III this season and van Oosterom was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.58.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Voss was second with a time of 1:07.78 while Dombroski finished right behind with.a third-best time of 1:10.12.
The final individual event of the morning session was the 100-yard backstroke with Svendsen finishing third recording a time of 1:00.43. The morning closed out with the 200-yard freestyle relay as Wentzel, van Oosterom, Chandler and Voelker finishing second with a time of 1:40.04.
The 500-yard freestyle was the first event of the evening session with Wentzel and Svendsen coming in first and second, respectively while Durand was fourth and Weil finished sixth.
Voss and Dombroski finished first and third in the 200-yard breaststroke with Voss claiming the tip time along with a lifetime best. Weil rounded out the top-five in the event coming in fourth with a time of 2:31.00.
The final individual event included Friedrich and Forsmark in the 200-yard butterfly. Friedrich was fourth to touch the wall securing a lifetime best finish of 2:16.58.
Wentzel led the 400-yard freestyle relay team including van Oosterom, Svendsen, and Voss to a first place finish to close out the evening session with a time of 3:32.77.
Up next for the Wildcats is their annual training trip followed up the first meet of 2023 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on January 14.
