Duluth, Minn -- The Wildcats' record improved to 3-1 Saturday with an impressive road win over the
Saints. First years
Kaylee Miron and
Emme Golembiewski scored 14 and 10 respectively. Golembiewski
also pulled down 9 rebounds to help St Kate's dominate on the glass 53 to 35.
After the home team opened the game with a three, the Wildcats went on a 10-3 run to go up by 4.
Coach Mulhern's 1-3-1 press gave the Saints some trouble, and good Wildcat defense down low (five
blocks in the first half) spurred the Saints to try several three-pointers; but they missed their next 11
attempts from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, St. Kate's heated up in the second, scoring 26 in the quarter,
hitting 9 of 21 from the field and 6 of 7 from the line. At halftime, St. Kate's held a 21-point lead.
Things turned around a bit in the third quarter, with St. Scholastica going on a 17-2 run that cut the lead
to single digits (36-44). St. Kate's pushed back, extending their lead to 14 with a little over a minute left
in the frame, but the Saints closed the quarter with 5 unanswered, and so 9 points separated the team
at the start of the fourth. The Wildcats then closed things, going back up by as many as 14 and never
letting their lead fall below 9.
The Wildcats will travel to Winona on Wednesday for a 7 pm game against the Saint Mary's University Cardinals.Â
