ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine University hockey claimed the weekend sweep with a 5-2 victory over the Finlandia University Lions on Saturday afternoon. The win is the 16th straight victory for the Wildcats over the Lions in a series that dates back to 2008.
Rookie
Isabel Burt scored her first collegiate goal and the game-winner with eight minutes left in the opening period with an assist from junior
Abby Pirkl.
Pirkl had the assist on the Wildcats second goal getting a pass from rookie
Ellie Skaja to help
Raechel Painovich score her first collegiate goal two minutes into the second period.
The Lions cut the lead in half ten minutes later scoring a power play goal. A minute later, St. Kate's did the same thing with senior
Laura Denchfield scoring while on the power play assisted by sophomore
Joslin Mumm.
The Wildcats' fourth goal of the game was scored by Burt from Pirkl and junior goaltender
Abby Severson closing out the second period.
Finlandia added one final goal a quarter of the way through the third. St. Kate's went on to add one final goal scored by senior
Marie Reimer, her first of the season assisted by senior
Brittany Weber and rookie
Lauren Sundgren.
In total six Wildcat earned their first collegiate points in the series against Finlandia while three rookies scored their first collegiate goals.
St. Kate's is home again Friday and Saturday next week hosting Lawrence University at 7 pm and 1 pm.
