WINONA, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team claimed their first victory of 2022 with a 71-61 defeat of the Saint Mary's University Cardinals led by rookie Greta Schimnowski with a game-high 22 points. The first-year drained an impressive seven three-pointers with six in the first half.

The first quarter was back and forth for the conference rivals with St. Kate's holding a one-point advantage after the first ten minutes. Schimnowski posted three triples in the first ten minutes bringing St. Kate's from behind twice. St. Kate's carried a four-point lead into halftime led by Schimnowski with another trio of three-pointers in ten minutes.

Out of the half, the purple and gold went on a ten-point run for their largest lead of the contest from Schimnowski's seventh three-point basket. Her seven made three-pointers land her second in program history for most made attempts in a single game.

The Cardinals inched back at the end of the third going up by one with ten minutes to play. The Wildcats trailed the Cardinals for the first three minutes of the fourth before going on a nine-point run led by senior Sam Orth responsible for six of the points for a total of 11 in the quarter.

The Wildcats were hot from the charity line shooting 70 percent as rookies Kylie Wood and Sydney Elliot were both flawless. Schimnowski finished the game with a career-high 22 points along with five boards. Orth tallied 13 points overall with seven rebounds and three assists followed by junior Bree Glynn and Wood recording eight apiece.
