Wildcats blank Saint Mary's 10-0 on Senior Day

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine soccer team opened the spring home season with a 10-0 defeat of the visiting Saint Mary's University Cardinals on Thursday for Senior Day. The Wildcats extend undefeated season to 3-0 with one game remaining on the abbreviated season.

In total, five players scored goals in the game led by sophomore Amanda Elton and first-year Emily Stephens each scoring three goals a piece.

Elton struck first with a goal at 14:37 assisted by senior Emma Schluter. Sofia Campbell took care of the next goal netting her first of the game off of a penalty kick at 20:37. Seven minutes later, Campbell netted her second to give St. Kate's a three goal lead halfway though the first half.

Junior Amora Valencia added the fourth goal at 37:34 with an assist from Stephens. The rookie went onto score her first goal of the game with just five minutes in the half and added her second with less than a minute to play with help from junior Emma Watt for a 6-0 first half total.

With a minute and a half into the second 45 minutes, Stephens netted her third goal recording her first career hat trick for a total of seven points on the day with three shots on goal.

Junior Lauren Witte added the team's eighth goal at 73:27 unassisted before Elton added her final two goals. Elton's second goal came at 78:50 and her second was at 80:05 for a 10-0 finish. The ten goals is the largest margin of victory scored by the Wildcats' in head coach Jesse Campos' time at the helm and largest win over a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) team in program history.

The Wildcats return to St. Kate's Field on Sunday for a 1 pm game against the College of Saint Benedict to close out the Spring 2021 season.
