ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine seniors,
Erin Cutts and
Erin Tebben were honored before the Wildcats' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match with the visiting University of St. Thomas Tommies. St. Kate's put up a tough battle taking the first set from St. Thomas but ultimately fell 3-1 in the final conference matching of the two programs. The last time the Wildcats won a set against the soon to be Division I Tommies, was on October 28, 2017 at home, when Tebben was a first-year on the team.
St. Kate's took the opening set over St. Thomas 26-24 led by junior
Lauren Isaacson with five kills and five digs. Tebben, Isaacson and junior
Bryana Leverentz each tallied two kill in the second set as Isaacson collected five more digs falling 25-20. The Tommies ran away with set three with a score of 25-14 forcing multiple error for the Wildcats. St. Kate's rallied back in the fourth set with included three lead changes and saw the score tied four times but didn't have enough to out serve the Tommies falling 25-23 for a final score of 3-1.
Leverentz recorded eight kills and three digs in the four set match as Isaacson had 16 digs and seven kills. Four players in total were in tallied double-digit digs including Isaacson (16), first-year
Claire Segner (15), sophomore
Marissa Gilbertson (14), and junior
Julia Weiler (11).
Tebben finished the match with four kills and six blocks while Cutts tallied five kills, seven digs, one ace, and four blocks.
Two matches remain on the Wildcat volleyball schedule this season as they travel to Concordia College in Moorhead on Wednesday, April 21 and close out the season Wednesday, April 28 at Hamline University.
