ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine basketball team picked up their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win in their home opener on Saturday afternoon at
Butler Center. The Wildcats topped St. Olaf College 61-49 led by rookie
Kylie Wood with a season-best 14 points. St. Kate's is now 2-3 overall with a MIAC record of 1-1.
How it happened:
-The Wildcats went on an 10-point run in the middle of the opening quarter to build an eight point cushion going after ten minutes.
Bree Glynn and Syndey Elliot combined for 11 of the teams 20 points while
Brooke Torvik added four.
- The Oles outscored the Wildcats in the second quarter getting within one point in the last two minutes of the half. First-year
Greta Schimnowski was 100 percent in her 4 minutes on the court tallying six points.
- Coming out of the half, St. Olaf snagged the lead getting up by five before Elliot drained a three in the seventh minute before
Sam Orth and Wood added a pair a buckets to maintain the advantage again.
- The final quarter belonged to the Wildcats scoring 18 points and shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line.
