ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine soccer (15-2-3, 8-1-1 MIAC) saw their historic season come to an end falling in double overtime to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 1-0 on Sunday in the NCAA Second Round.
St. Catherine and UW-La Crosse battled the elements and each other for 102 minutes with the Eagles moving on to the third round.
The first 45 minutes of play was back and forth as sophomore goalkeeper
Kate Praetz faced just one shot and the Wildcats sophomore forward
Emily Stephens had the lone shot on goal in the 23rd minute.
Momentum shifted in the second half with St. Kate's firing off six shots but unable to get past the Eagles netminder. An aggressive Eagles team wore down the Wildcats in the first overtime holding St. Kate's to just one shot again with an opportunity by senior
Sofia Campbell.
Campbell had the final shot for St. Kate's in the second OT going just over the top-left. Ultimately, the Eagles got the best of the Wildcats with a breakaway goal after just two minutes of play.
The Wildcat senior class led the way in today's final as Campbell tallied three shots with one on goal and seniors Amora Valenica and
Lauren Witte each had two shots on goal.
