ROCHESTER, Minn - St. Catherine University softball finished the weekend in Rochester going 4-0 picking up wins over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Lawrence University on Sunday. The Wildcats are opened the day with an early game against the Blugolds for the 3-2 victory followed by a 7-5 win over the Vikings to close out their time at the Rochester Dome games. Sophomore
Alex Ehde highlighted the weekend for St. Kate's going 9-13 (.692) with six runs, four RBIs and two doubles.
Game One: St. Catherine 3, UWEC 2
After the Wildcats maintained a 3-0 lead for the majority of the game, the Blugold rallied back in the bottom to score what would be their only two runs of the game. Rookies
Julia Azure and
Hannah Fry combined for the Wildcats first run as Azure drove Fry in at the top of the second.
Ehde scored the Wildcats second run in the top of the fifth off of a ground-rule double from first-year
Alyssa Montero to bring her in. Fry crossed the plate again in the top of the sixth for St. Catherine after an error by the Blugolds shortstop with senior
Amber Montero at-bat.
Right-handed pitcher
Kathryn Proper earned the win in the circle for St. Kate's. Proper gave up two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out three.
Game Two: St. Catherine 7, Lawrence 5
St. Kate's rallied from behind in game two to come back in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run inning. After finding themselves down 3-0 in the top of the opening inning, the Wildcats put one on the board with junior
Mikayla Grant scoring an unearned run on a Vikings error.
Lawrence added another run in the top of the fifth inning before St. Catherine scored four to take the lead at 5-4. The Vikings added their final run of the game in the sixth on an error at third base. The Wildcats' final two runs were scored in the bottom of the six with Fry and sophomore
Jasmine Ziegler both scoring unearned runs as a result of the Vikings error in the right field and another ground-rule double from Am. Montero.
Sophomore
Annabelle Schutte and Al. Montero split time in the circle in game two with Al. Montero earning the win. Schutte pitched for 4.2 innings allowing five hits and four runs walking three batters. Schutte also recorded four strikeouts in the game facing 21 batters. Al. Montero finished the 2.1 innings with three hits and one run plus one strikeout.
Up Next: The Wildcats are set to host the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Friday, March 13 at the West St. Paul Dome. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 pm and 2 pm.
