Wildcats cruise to wins in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Wildcat softball team took care of business in Rochester Saturday, winning the first game 13-0 over Knox College and taking the second 9-3 over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. St. Catherine is now 5-1 on the season.

Game 1:
The Wildcats faced Knox College in game one, getting the scoring going right away. First-year Alyssa Montero had two RBIs and sophomore Lindsay Burr knocked in one in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats never looked back, cruising to a 13-0 shutout behind a strong outing from sophomore pitcher Annabelle Schutte. Schutte pitched three innings, striking out four and allowing one hit. First-year Emily Price finished the game in the circle, pitching the final two innings and recording one strikeout. Sophomore Alex Ehde went 3-3 from the plate, tying Al. Montero and Burr with two RBIs.

Game 2:
First-year Alyssa Montero started game two against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, allowing two earned runs over six innings and recording four strikeouts. River Falls scored two in the top of the first, but the Wildcats responded right away, with senior Alyssa Wicks drawing a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the first. First-year Emily Price followed it up with a two-run single to put the Wildcats ahead. Senior Autumn Mortenson added an RBI single, and the team never relinquished the lead. Junior Kathryn Proper closed out the game, striking out one in the seventh inning. Ehde continued her hot streak, going 4-4 at the plate.

On the two wins, head coach Colleen Powers said "The team did a great job making adjustments offensively. Defensively, there was great growth for our pitching staff, throwing two wins with two saves." The Wildcats are back in the dome tomorrow, with games at 8 and 10 AM.
