Wildcats grab MIAC victory over Bennies on the road

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - St. Catherine picked up a 67-58 win over the College of Saint Benedict on Wednesday at Claire Lynch Hall in St. Joseph. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory advances the Wildcats to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.

Senior Jackie Radford recorded her fourth career double-double pacing the Wildcats to their first victory of 2020. Radford was 5 for 6 from the field and shot 2 for 5 from the line with 12 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block. Off the bench, Radford's fellow senior Danica Cambrice added 15 points with seven boards, one assist, and one steal.

The Bennies opened play carrying a lead over the Wildcats until the last two minutes of the quarter when St. Catherine rallied back for a 16-14 at the end of ten minutes.

The Wildcats carried the lead into the second quarter getting an 8-point lead of the Bennies with a little over two minutes remaining in the half as the result of a good three-point shot from rookie Sarah Lavell. Saint Ben's fought back getting back within two points after scoring seven straight on the Wildcats defense and a halftime score of 34-32.

Coming out of the break, the Wildcats broke away again from the Bennies with a 7-point lead to head into the final 10 minutes of the game. Sophomore's Katie Benjamin and Mackenzie Kurczek plus first-year Cierra Ahlf each added three to the scoreboard making up nine of the Wildcats 14 points in the quarter.

St. Catherine solidified the win in the final ten minutes taking a 10-point lead over the Bennies with five minutes left on the clock. Saint Benedict tried to make a comeback in the final minutes scoring 12-points to the Wildcats 13-points. Their efforts weren't enough though to overcome the lead built at the beginning of the quarter by St. Catherine.

The Wildcats bench added 26 points against the Bennies led by Cambrice with 15 points and Lavell with seven. The Wildcats starting five added 41 of the team's total, led by Radford's 12 points and Kurczek, Ahlf, and rookie Bree Glynn recording eight each.

St. Catherine returns to St. Paul on Saturday for a MIAC game against Concordia-Moorhead at 3 pm at Butler Center
