Tennis wraps up season with 7-2 win over Hamline

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wildcat tennis team adding one final win to the 2019 season defeating Hamline 7-2 on Saturday morning at Baseline Tennis Center. St. Kate's finishes the overall season 8-7 and 4-6 in the MIAC. 

St. Kate's was defeated in both the No. 1 singles and doubles, winnings the remainder of matches over the Pipers for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dual victory. 

Head coach Megan Gaard said following the victory, "It's always great to finish the season with a strong team victory. I can always count on my players to compete hard no matter what the score. I was very proud of every Wildcat today!"

Junior Bri Dorr played the No. 1 doubles match paired with junior Alisha Wiedmeier in a tough battle falling 5-8. The balance of the junior class, Maddy Knoll and Aubrey Eckstrom defeated the Pipers No. 2 doubles team, 8-4 to improve their final season No. 2 doubles record to 3-2. 

Sophomore Ella Graham and rookie Reilee Schepper won the No. 3 doubles match over Hamline 8-2 to finish their doubles team record to an impressive 5-1 in the No. 3 position. 

 The Wildcat seniors, Leah Obert and Ruth Rike both won their final career matches in the No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively. Obert defeated her opponent 6-0 in both sets. Obert finishes her career with an overall singles record of 46-18 in her four seasons at St. Catherine. 

Rike finished her senior season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Rike was 4-1 this season concluding her tennis career with an overall record of 12-5. 

Dorr fell in the No. 1 singles match with set scores of 6-3, 6-2. Wiedmeier defeated the Pipers in the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0 tallying her ninth singles match victory this season. 

Knoll played in the No. 3 singles match for the second contest in a row defeated her pairing 6-3, 6-1. Knoll finishes her junior campaign with a singles record of 8-6.
