MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior
Leah Obert is off to quite a start this spring remaining undefeated in singles competition after five matches. Obert and the balance of the Wildcats faced No. 31 in the nation, Carleton College on Saturday evening at Baseline Tennis Center. St. Catherine was defeated by the Knights in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match 1-8.
Junior
Bri Dorr was matched up Carleton's No. 1 singles player dropping her first set 6-2 and the second set 6-3. Fellow junior
Alisha Wiedmeier was in the No. 2 spot for St. Kate's dropping both sets with a score of 6-1.
Junior's
Aubrey Eckstrom and
Maddy Knoll played in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. Eckstrom and Knoll both lost their matches to the Knights 6-2, 6-2.
Picking up the lone point overall for the Wildcats' Obert won the first set 6-2 and put up a tough battle but fell in the second 6-4. Obert topped her opponent 10-8 in a tie-breaker.
The final singles match of the day was sophomore
Ella Graham in No. 6 falling 6-0,6-0.
In doubles competition, Dorr and Eckstrom played in the No. 1 spot for the fourth time this season. The duo is 2-2 overall in doubles competition, falling this evening to the Knights 8-2.
Carleton's No. 2 doubles team topped the duo of Knoll and Wiedmeier 8-1 bringing their doubles record to 1-1 this season, both matches in the No. 2 spot.
Graham played in the No. 3 doubles spot with senior
Ruth Rike for the first time this season. The duo fell to the Knights 8-1.
St. Kate's is back at Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota Saturday in a non-conference match vs. the University of Minnesota-Morris at 6:30 p.m.
