ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine University hockey had another overtime game result in a tie with a top Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) team on Friday evening at Drake Arena. The Wildcats faced the No. 3 team in the MIAC, the Augsburg University Auggies and after 65 minutes of play, ended in a 4-4 game.
Augsburg was on the board first scoring 1:49 into the first period to take the 1-0 lead with a goal from Emily Ach.
Sophomore forward
Hunter Gallus netted her first collegiate goal to tie the game 1-1 at 9:27 in the first assisted by senior
Brede Postier and sophomore
Veronica Gruett.
The Auggies Ach took the lead again for Augsburg at 14:50 for her second of three goals against the Wildcats on Friday.
Senior
Laken Muller scored her 9th goal of the season just 34 seconds into the second period assisted by her sister
Lexi Muller. Le. Muller leads the team in assists this season with 11, good for No. 10 in the MIAC. La. Muller's 9th goal ranks her No. 9 in the conference tied with teammate
Brede Postier.
Just 26 second later, V. Gruett gave the Wildcats the lead at 3-2 assisted by her sister junior
Tori Gruett and sophomore
Ashlyn Rakos.
The Wildcats held the one goal lead until the Auggies scored again at the 12 minute mark in the 3rd period.
The fourth Wildcat goal came from Postier assisted by Tentis with a little more than 2 minutes remaining. Augsburg answered back though with 1:12 to go to force OT and result in a 4-4 game.
Head coach
Brad Marshall said after the game, "I'm proud of this team. We have a short bench, players with 34 minuets of ice time and all they do is keep working hard. It would be easy for them to quite, but they haven't yet."
Sophomore goalie
Bryce Boreen had 23 saves on the evening extending her save percentage to .923 on the season.
St. Kate's will face the Auggies for game two of the MIAC series on Saturday at Ed Saugestad Ice Arena at 4 p.m.
