ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University Wildcat soccer team (3-1-1, 1-0-1 MIAC) is on the road again Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. matchup at Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent the Bethel University Royals (5-2, 1-1 MIAC). After falling to Coe on Wednesday, St. Kate's is on the hunt to take down Bethel who won in their midweek game at home against St. Olaf.
The last time these teams met was September 23 at St. Kate's with the Wildcats coming out the victors 2-0. In that game,
Kaitlin Machovec (Woodbury, Minn. / North) was the first to score for the Wildcats on an assist from
Brittany Kollman (Fergus Fall, Minn. / Kennedy Secondary) in the 32nd minute. The second Wildcat goal came from
Shannon Hickey '18 with a header off
Iryna Talkachova's (Minsk, Belarus / Shattuck St. Mary's) corner kick. Machovec, Kollman and Talkachova's all time record against the Royals is 3-0 as they look to extend that to a perfect 4-0 tomorrow.
In the Wednesday game at Coe, St. Kate's came out overpowering the Kohawks with 7 shots in the first half. St. Kate's held Coe until the 68th minute when Coe's Sydney Schroeder netted her first of two. Sophomore
Lauren Witte (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville North) was able to tie the game at the 80th minute but Schroeder answered back minutes later.
Bethel's last game came with an 2-1 OT win at home against MIAC opponent St. Olaf College. Bethel's Britney Monteon scored early in the first half and held the 1-0 lead for almost 20 minutes when St. Olaf tied off a free kick. The game remained scoreless through regulation forcing overtime. Overtime was short lived as the Royals scored early for the win.
Against common opponents, both St. Kate's and Bethel took down University of Wisconsin-Stout in the last two weeks. However, Bethel fell to Augsburg on September 15 in an overtime loss 2-1, who the Wildcats topped days before on September 11 1-0.
Tomorrow's 1 p.m. game at Bethel will be streamed on Bethel's website.
