ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University volleyball team finished their season on Saturday afternoon with a loss in straight sets to the Tommies of the University of St. Thomas. The Wildcats finish the season at 14-12 and 3-8 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), the program's best finish since the 2015 season when they went 18-13 and 4-7 MIAC.
St. Kate's pressured the regionally ranked Tommies throughout the match dropping the first set 18-25. Set two was another close set falling by just eight points at 17-25. While set three showed their best performance of the match getting within three to drop the final set 22-25.
First-year libero
Grace Amacher (Faribault, Minn.) concluded her impressive debut season with 19 digs in the three-set match. Amacher finishes the season with 506 digs overall and remains ranked first in the conference for digs per set at 5.62.
Sophomore middle hitter,
Erin Tebben (New London, Minn. / New London-Spicer) led at the net with seven kills just ahead of junior outside hitter
Emma Nelson (Byron, Minn.) sophomore middle hitter
Erin Cutts (Osceola, Wis./ South Dakota State University) and first-year outside hitter Bry Leverentz (Andover, Minn.) at five kills each and two blocks each. Nelson also picked up 10 digs in the match.
Senior right side hitters
Emily Carman (Maple Grove, Minn./ Osseo) and
Mackenzie Peper (Osceola, Wis.) closed out their careers as Wildcats with four kills against the Tommies.
In the Wildcats 2018 season, they played a total of 26 matches, 94 sets, collected 1113 kills while averaging a .171 attack percentage. The team had 1044 aces, 1746 digs and earned 1462 points.
