ST. PAUL - The Wildcats hot streak was extinguished Wednesday night in the three set loss to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent the St. Olaf College Oles (17-5, 4-3 MIAC). St. Kate's is now 9-8 on the season and 1-6 in MIAC play, picking up their first conference win October 5 against Macalester College.
On faculty appreciation night, sophomore middle hitter
Erin Cutts (Osceola Wis.) led the Wildcats hitting .533 and tallying 8 kills and 4 blocks.
The Wildcats had a strong first set pressing the Oles late getting within just one point of the Oles after trailing by five point early. The Oles were able to run away after the Wildcats come back attempt taking the first set 25-20.
Set two started out slow with the Oles coming out of the intermission to take a 6-0 lead. St. Kate's found the momentum again late in the set getting within one point again at the 18-17, Oles and again 21-20. St. Kate's added two more in the set but were not able to top the Oles dropping the set 25-22.
The final set started out in favor of the Wildcats taking the lead on junior defensive specialist
Larissa Kisch (Oakdale, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) at the service line picking up an ace. Kisch leads the Wildcats in service aces with 26 on the season averaging .46 aces per set. After tying the set at 6-6, the Oles ran away with the set 25-15.
St. Kate's is set to host the St. Kate's Invite in
