Basketball goes for third-straight win versus Bethel

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University basketball team has had quite the week. Since returning from break on December 30, the Wildcats have opened the second half of the season with two-straight wins. On Saturday, St. Kate's will go for win number three of the second semester, as it hosts the Bethel University Royals at 3 p.m. in the Butler Center Gym.

The game will be the Wildcats second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) game of the week, as the team beat Saint Mary's University 63-59 Wednesday evening. Fans who cannot attend in person can watch live online via live stats and video, while score updates can be found on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five things to know before Saturday's 3 p.m. tip off:

63 – St. Kate's has scored exactly 63 points in its last three games and posted a 2-1 record in that time span. This season, the Wildcats are 5-2 when scored 60 or more points in a game, with their only losses coming to Lewis and Clark and UW-River Falls.

30 – Seniors Meg Clark (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo) and Alexis Garcia (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) accounted for 30 of St. Kate's 33 second half points in the team's 63-59 win over Saint Mary's on Wednesday. The two seniors both tallied career highs in points, as Clark scored a career-high 22 in the win, while Garcia was the team's leading scorer with 26 points.

147 – Bethel won both games against St. Kate's last season, scoring 147 combined points, the second highest point total any MIAC opponent scored against the Wildcats last season. The Royals won the first game between the two teams, beating St. Kate's 86-57 behind 18 point performances from Hannah Johnson and Jasmin Bretoi. The two teams then met in the final game of the regular season, in which Bethel came out on top 61-55 in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Jackie Radford (St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) was the team's leading scorer in the loss, as she scored a then career-high 12 points.

9.4 – After facing the top-rebounder in the MIAC on Wednesday, the Wildcats will have to face another quality rebounder in Johnson on Saturday. The two-time MIAC Women's basketball player of the week currently averages 9.4 rebounds per game, the second-highest average behind Brandi Blattner's 10.3. Versus MIAC opponents, Johnson is currently averaging 7.0 rebounds per game this season and pulled in a combined 23 rebounds in two games against St. Kate's last season.

27.2 – The Wildcats defense has been outstanding this season, especially from three-point range. On Wednesday, St. Kate's held Saint Mary's, one of the top three-point shooting team's in the MIAC, to 12% shooting from behind the arc. Overall, the Wildcats are holding opponents to 27% shooting from the three-point line, the third lowest percentage in the MIAC, and average 10.3 steals per game this season.
