ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University basketball team has hit a bit of a speed bump in recent weeks. After opening the second half of the 2017-18 season with a 2-1 record, including a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win over Saint Mary's, the Wildcats have dropped the last three games against conference foes. Wednesday evening, St. Kate's looks to right the ship when the team hosts Concordia College at 7 p.m. in the
Butler Center Gym.
For fans who cannot attend the game in person,
live stats and
video will be available for viewing and score updates can be found on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).
Here are the five things to know before tonight's tip off between the Wildcats and Cobbers:
34.8 – This will be the second meeting between St. Kate's and Concordia this season. The last time these two teams met on December 6, the Cobbers walked away with a 56-49 win. However, both the Wildcats and Concordia shot 34% from the floor in the game, while sophomore forward
Jackie Radford (St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derhman Hall) led all players in scoring with 14 points. She was second amongst all players with nine rebounds.
48.1 – St. Kate's will have to find a way to stop Concordia's top scorer Grace Wolhowe. The junior guard shoot 48.1% from the floor, No. 8 in the MIAC, and is averaging 10.5 points per game this season. In the two team's first meeting in December, the Wildcats defensively held Wolhowe to just six points, two of which were scored on free throws.
7 – Like the Wildcats, the Cobbers are also trying to snap a multi-game losing streak. Concordia has lost seven in a row, including Monday's 78-63 loss to Bethel. In fact, since beating St. Kate's in December, the Cobbers have posted a 1-7 record with their lone win coming against Augsburg on December 9.
32 – Senior forward
Alexis Garcia (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) had another monster game in St. Kate's 64-57 loss to Hamline University on Saturday. Garcia scored a career-high 32 points in the loss, which is tied for third all-time in single-game scoring history. It's also the most points scored by a Wildcat this season and the most scored by any St. Kate's player since
Danica Cambrice scored 30 against Macalester in late December.
60 – The Wildcats are currently averaging 60.0 points per game this season. However, since beating Saint Mary's on December 3, St. Kate's has been held to an average of 53.7 points per game, well below its season average.
