ST. JOSEPH, MINN. – It's full steam ahead for the St. Catherine University basketball team. With no nonconference games remaining on the schedule, things are just getting started in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.
After playing in two hard fought MIAC games last week, the Wildcats have another tough opponent on their hands Wednesday evening, as they take on the College of Saint Benedict at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Currently, the Blazers are the top team in the MIAC, boasting a 12-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play.

Here are the five things to know before this evening's 7 p.m. tip off:
1st – This will be the first meeting between the Wildcats and Blazers since the MIAC playoffs last season. In an intense, low scoring game, the No. 4 seed Saint Ben's beat No. 5 St. Kate's 53-50 and held top scorers LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) and
Audra Clark (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo) to a combined 17 points, their lowest combined point total of 2016-17.
7 – The Wildcats are attempting to snap the Blazers seven-game win streak, which includes six victories over MIAC opponents. Saint Ben's most recent win was a come-from-behind 60-55 win over Saint Mary's University on Saturday, in which the Blazers outscored the Cardinals 28-18 in the fourth and final quarter to come away with the victory.
57 – St. Kate's enters Wednesday evening's game after a tough loss to Bethel University, one of the top teams in the MIAC, on Saturday. The Wildcats led the Royals for over half the contest but eventually fell by a final score of 65-57. It was the first time in three-games the team didn't score at least 63 points.
21.3 – St. Kate's senior forward
Alexis Garcia (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) was named MIAC Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week for the first time in her career on Monday. The senior averaged a career-high 21.3 points in three games, helping the Wildcats post a 2-1 record with wins over UM-Morris and Saint Mary's. More impressively, Garcia accounted for 41% of St. Kate's offense in the 63-59 win over the Cardinals and scored a career-high 26 points in the victory.
2nd – Garcia is the second Wildcat to earn MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week honors in basketball this season. Sophomore forward
Danica Cambrice (St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) was named MIAC Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week on December 18 for her historic performances against Macalester College and UW-River Falls.
