Softball travels to Iowa to take on Wartburg

WAVERLY, IOWA – The St. Catherine University softball team hit a bit of a speed bump in its final three games in Florida. On Tuesday, the Wildcats (10-6, 0-0 MIAC) will try to right the ship, as they take on Wartburg College (11-5, 0-0 IIAC) in a doubleheader in Waverly, Iowa.

Tuesday's doubleheader between the Wildcats and Knights was originally scheduled for March 10 before weather forced the reschedule. Still, both teams are trying to end losing streaks, as Wartburg is coming off a 7-0 loss to Washington University-St. Louis, while St. Kate's is trying to end its three-game losing streak.

Live stats will be available for both games in the double header, and score updates can be found on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five things to know before first pitch between the Wildcats and Knights:

4 – St. Kate's went 4-4 over spring break last week with big wins over UW-Whitewater (1-0), Tufts (6-1), Fontbonne (5-4) and Buena Vista (5-0). However, the Wildcats ended the trip on a three-game losing streak after suffering losses to UW-Oshkosh (5-4), Hope (5-0) and Bowdoin (4-2). The last time St. Kate's lost three games in the row was last season, when the Wildcats ended the regular season with three consecutive losses to MIAC opponents. After the three-game skid, St. Kate's played in the conference tournament championship game, made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, and was one run away from going to the Super Regional.

39 – With her 1-0 shutout of UW-Whitewater, Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) became the winningest pitcher in program history. Thanks to the shutout win, Flugstad earned the 39th victory of her career, passing Ana Fernandez on the Wildcats all-time wins list. Thanks to two other wins on the trip, Flugstad now has 41 wins in her career at St. Kate's, the most by any pitcher in school history.

.486Jenna George (Elsworth, Wis. / Elsworth) has had an outstanding first month of the season. The sophomore third baseman is currently leads the Wildcats in multiple offensive categories, including batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. Her .486 BA ranks third in the MIAC and she currently leads the conference in walks (13) and home runs (3) and is second in both OBP (.620) and slugging percentage (.784).

1st – This will be the first time St. Kate's has faced Wartburg since head coach Colleen Powers took over the program four seasons ago. In the past two seasons alone, the Wildcats have played five teams from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC), including Buena Vista, Simpson and Coe this season. St. Kate's is currently 2-1 against IIAC teams this season.

1 – Wartburg has played just one other school from the MIAC this season: Saint Mary's University. The Knights and Cardinals faced each other on their spring trips to Florida, with Wartburg coming out on top 3-2.
