Basketball set to host Concordia Wednesday night

ST. PAUL, MINN. – For the past two months, the St. Catherine University basketball team has been, if nothing else, one of the most consistent teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). After a big win over Maclaester on Wednesday and a tough loss to St. Thomas Saturday, the Wildcats have a .500 record in conference play and sit in a tie for fifth place in the MIAC standings.

Wednesday night, St. Kate's pursuit for the conference tournament continues, as it hosts Concordia College at 7 p.m. in the Butler Center Gym. The Cobbers are currently 7-14 overall and hold a 4-10 record in MIAC play.

Fans who cannot make it to the game can watch online via live stats and video and score updated will be made on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats). Those who can attend the game in person are encouraged to wear teal clothing or shirts, as St. Kate's chapter of It's On Us is supporting a "teal out" to raise awareness for the prevention of sexual assault on college campuses.

Here are the five things to know before tonight's game between the Wildcats and Cobbers:

2 – This will be the second meeting between St. Kate's and Concordia this season. The first happened on December 7 and the Cobbers came out on top, beating the Wildcats 85-78. Concordia's leading scorer Greta Walsh scored 28 points in the win while teammate Lincoln Haiby added a season-high 17 points. Audra Clark (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo) was St. Kate's leading scorer with 21 points and LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) added 17.

3 – The Cobbers and Wildcats have three of the top-10 scorers in the MIAC this season. Walsh currently ranks fourth in the MIAC in scoring, as she averages 15.6 points per game, with Holt and Clark right behind her in the No. 5 and 6 spot. Holt is currently fifth in scoring (15.3) and second in rebounding (9.3) while Clark is sixth (15.1).

9 – On Saturday, St. Kate's held No. 2 St. Thomas to its second lowest point total of the season in a 62-53 loss. It was also the closest game the Tommies have played against a MIAC opponent this season, the Wildcats held the undefeated team to just 36% shooting from the field and 23% shooting from beyond the arc.

3 – St. Kate's led St. Thomas in three offensive categories on Saturday, including points off turnovers, points in the paint, and bench points. In total, the Wildcats scored 19 points off turnovers compared to the Tommies 16 and dominated with 34 points in the paint. St. Kate's bench players also made huge contributions during the game, as they scored 20 points in the loss.

5, 16 – According to a recent study, one in 5 women and one in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college. For that reason, St. Kate's recently partnered with It's On Us, a national organization and campaign started by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in 2014. The goal of It's On Us is to bring awareness to the issue of sexual assault and violence, especially on college campuses, and find a solution to the problem that begins and ends with us.
