ST. PAUL, MINN. – The final month of the 2016-17 basketball team is final here, and the St. Catherine University is kicking it off with a home game against Macalester College. The game is the first of four home games the Wildcats will play in February, all against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents, and may have major implications in the conference playoff picture.
Both
live stats and
video will be available for fans who can't make it to
Butler Center for the 7 p.m. tip off. Score updates will also be made on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).
Without further ado, here are the five things to know before tonight's basketball game:
8 – The Wildcats enter Wednesday night's game coming off one of their most thrilling wins on Saturday over Augsburg College. The two teams traded the lead eight times in the fourth quarter alone before St. Kate's managed to take a commanding four point lead with two minutes remaining. The Wildcats managed to hold that lead in the final minutes to win the game 69-65.
18 –
LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) had a career day against the Auggies last Saturday and had one of the best fourth quarters in program history. Holt pulled in a career high 18 rebounds in the game and scored 14 of her team leading 26 points in the fourth quarter. She also scored 10 of the team's final 12 points in the game.
3 – Three Wildcats scored in double-digits in Saturday's win over Augsburg. In addition to Holt,
Audra Clark (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo) and
Kennedy Jennings (Grimes, Iowa / Dallas Center-Grimes) scored 16 and 11 point respectively.
5th – As it stands, St. Kate's is currently in a tie for fifth place with Saint Mary's in the MIAC standings. That means if the season were to end today, the Wildcats would make the conference playoffs for the first time in over five years as the No. 6 seed.
9th – Macalester junior Regan Fruh currently ranks ninth in the MIAC in both rebounds (7.5) and points per game (13.7). She also leads her team in multiple statistical categories, including scoring, rebounds, and field goal percentage.
