Wildcats look to snap skid at Macalester

ST. PAUL, MINN. – It's been a bit of a rough go for the St. Catherine University basketball team to start the 2017-18 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) season. The Wildcats are currently 0-3 in MIAC play having lost their first three games against some of the top teams in the conference.

St. Kate's will try to stop the three-game skid on Wednesday, as it takes on Macalester College in the final MIAC game before the holiday break. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and fans can watch online via live stats or video. Score updates can also be found on St. Kate's official Twitter account (@stkateswildcats).

Here are five things to know before this evening's basketball game at Macalester:

82 – Last season's game against the Scots was monumental in many ways for the Wildcats, as they defeated Macalester 82-48 in the Butler Center Gym. Then senior LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) broke the school record for both career points and career rebounds in the first half of the game. The Wildcats also dominated in every facet, as they outscored, outshot and outrebounded the Scots in 40 minutes of play.

8.0 – Two of the top rebounders in the MIAC are playing in tonight's contest. St. Kate's sophomore Jackie Radford (St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) and Maclaester senior Regan Fruh both average 8.0 rebounds per game, which is tied for seventh overall in the MIAC. Radford has been outstanding on the boards for the Wildcats during conference season, as her 29 rebounds against MIAC opponents is the third highest total and her 9.7 average ranks second as well.

6 – Radford isn't the only student-athlete from St. Kate's to rank in the top-10 in the MIAC this season. Fellow sophomore Danica Cambrice (St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) ranks in the top-10 in the conference in six different categories, including steals. Currently, Cambrice has tallied 17 steals this season, the third highest total in the conference. She also ranks No. 4 in points per 20 minutes (22.4), No. 7 in points per games (15.9), No. 8 in total points (111) and field goal percentage (52.9), and No. 10 in offensive rebounds (19) and rebounds per game (6.7).

5.3 – The Scots are one of the top defensive teams in the league, as they rank in the top-5 in the MIAC in both steals per game and blocks per game. Macalester's 5.3 blocks per game versus MIAC opponents ranks No. 2 in the conference, while their 9.3 steals per game versus conference opponents is No. 5.

3 – Tonight's game against Macalester will end St. Kate's three-game road trip before it returns home on December 16 for a 3 p.m. game against UW-River Falls. The Wildcats have played two other MIAC opponents, Concordia Moorhead and St. Thomas, on the road in the past 10 days and have not played at home since December 2.
