Basketball hosts Saint Ben's in crucial MIAC game

ST. PAUL, MINN. – If the 2016-17 basketball season were to end today, the St. Catherine University basketball team would be the sixth and final team to qualify for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoffs. However, the season does end today. In fact, the season is just start to heat up for the Wildcats, as they host the College of Saint Benedict Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

St. Kate's and Saint Ben's already met earlier this season in the first conference game of the season. However, much has changed since then. The Wildcats are off to their best start in MIAC play in head coach Sean Pinkteron's tenure, but the Blazers are also on a hot streak of their own, having won three of their last four contests.

Fans who can't make it to the Butler Center can tune into the game via live stats and video. Score updates will also be made on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five things to know before St. Kate's and Saint Ben's tip off at 7 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota:

22 – Junior guard Audra Clark (Kenyon, Minn. / Kenyon-Wanamingo) was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week on Monday after averaging 22.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in two games for the Wildcats last week. Against Gustavus, Clark was second on the team in total points (23) after shooting 69% from the floor and 60% from the free point line. The junior was even better against St. Olaf on Saturday, so good, she was nearly perfect. Clark was 8-8 from the field, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and 3-6 from the free throw line to finish the game with a team-high 21 points.

113 – In their last meeting, the Wildcats and Blazers scored 113 combined points. Unfortunately, it was Saint Ben's that scored the majority of those points. The Blazers beat St. Kate's 60-53 in the opening MIAC game of the season, and Clark was the Wildcats leading scorer with 16 points.

10.8 – St. Kate's currently averages 10.8 steals per game against conference opponents, which is the top average in the conference. On the flip side, Saint Ben's averages 15.7 turnovers per game, the third highest average in the MIAC.

48.8 – Clark isn't the only Wildcat on fire as of late. Senior forward Mari Lee (Dawson, Minn. / Dawson-Boyd) has been a top-shooter for St. Kate's all season long, but especially last week. Thanks to her equally outstanding week, Lee now leads the MIAC in three-point shooting (48.8%) and is fourth in overall field goal percentage (55.9%).

29- Senior guard LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) scored a season-high 29 points in the Wildcats loss to Gustavus on Wednesday and pulled in 12 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the 2016-17 season.

Bonus Number:
4-1
- St. Kate's is 4-1 at home, which is the team's best home record since before the 2006-07 season.
