Soccer faces top opponents in UW-Whitewater and Elmhurst

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University soccer team has been stellar this season. The only blemish in the Wildcats 4-0-1 record is an early September 2-2 draw against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe Carleton College. However, lately, St. Kate's has had trouble getting on the field, as two of the Wildcats last three games have been cancelled due to severe weather.

This weekend, St. Kate's hope the rain goes and stays away as it gets set to play in two key nonconference games. St. Kate's will return to the pitch after 10 long days of waiting to take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday afternoon before returning home to play Elmhurst College on Saturday at 2 p.m.

With a big weekend ahead, here are the things to know before the Wildcats return to competition:

2 – St. Kate's has had two games postponed due to weather this season and both were road games. The Wildcats were supposed to play UW-La Crosse in a nonconference game on September 9, but the game was cancelled due to uncooperative weather in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area. The same was true for St. Kate's scheduled game against Augsburg last Wednesday. That game has been rescheduled for October 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Augsburg.

13/17- The Warhawks were nationally ranked in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and D3soccer.com National polls. Thanks to an 8-1 record, UW-Whitewater was ranked No. 13 by the NSCAA and No. 17 by D3soccer.com in the most recent polls.

3.20 – The Wildcats have scored three or more goals in four and their five games this season to average 3.20 goals/game in 2016. Their opponents average just 1.60 goals per game.

11 – Of the 16 goals St. Kate's has scored this season, 11 of them have been scored in the second half. The Wildcats have surrendered half as many goals to their opponents (8) in 2016, with the majority of those being scored in the first half (5).

2 – Last season, St. Kate's defeated Elmhurst on the road in thrilling 2-1 fashion. Neither team was able to score in the opening 45 minutes of the game, but both teams combined to score three goals in the remaining 45 minutes. The Bluejays scored the first goal of the game at 55:59, but the Wildcats answered with two goals of their own, one from Allie Boucher (Stillwater, Minn. / Stillwater) and the other from Ellen Kokes (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson).

Live stats will be available for both games and score updates can be found on Twitter (@stkateswildcats). Kickoff for St. Kate's game against UW-Whitewater is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Sunday's game at St. Kate's is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
