RIPON, WIS. – The St. Catherine University volleyball team has had a busy start to the 2016 season. The Wildcats opened the season with the Sugar Loaf Classic, hosted the St. Kate's Invite a week later, and played their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match of the year on Wednesday.
With all that behind them, St. Kate's returns to the court for another tournament, this time in Ripon, Wisconsin. The Wildcats will play in the Ripon Tournament, hosted by Ripon College, for the second consecutive year over the upcoming weekend, which two matches Friday and two more on Saturday.
St. Kate's opens the tournament with a 3 p.m. match against host Ripon and will play in the following match at 5 p.m. against Alverno College. Then, on Saturday, the Wildcats return to the court for a 10 a.m. match against Lawrence University and will close the tournament at 2 p.m. against the University of Dubuque.
With a busy weekend ahead, here are the five things to know before first serve:
203 –
Shanee Herd (Alexandria, Minn. / Jefferson) currently has 203 digs, which ranked second in the MIAC and ninth in all Division III. Herd also has a digs per set average of 6.34, which is the best in the MIAC and No. 6 in the country. The senior also leads the team in total aces with 17.
58 – The Wildcats have served 58 aces in the first nine matches, while their opponents have only served 41.
.245 – Sophomore outside hitter
Payton Baker (Forest Lake, Minn. / Forest Lake) has 84 kills and only 31 errors in 216 attempts for a .245 hitting percentage, the best on the team. Her 84 kills are also the best on the team as is her 2.90 kills per set average.
144 – First year setter
Larissa Kisch (Oakdale, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) leads the team with 144 assists and an assist per set average of 4.50. Sophomore setter
Johna Radke (Muskego, Wis. / Muskego) is not far behind with 126 assists and a 4.34 assists
.312 – Middle blocker
Libby Kreuser (White Bear Lake, Minn. / Totino-Grace) hit .312 against Saint Mary's University on Wednesday to lead the team in hitting percentage.
