Softball prepares for final weekend of regular season

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The season is coming to an end for the St. Catherine University softball team in the most fitting way possible, with three Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheaders in three days. The Wildcats opens the weekend with a Friday doubleheader at Macalester, then hosts the College of St. Benedict on Saturday, and travels to St. Peter on Sunday to close out the weekend with a doubleheader against Gustavus.

With the MIAC postseason tournament looming, this weekend will be one of the most important of the season for St. Kate's. However, it is also a significant weekend for two Wildcat players. Seniors Robyn Rohr (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville North) and Donielle Kurvers (Monticello, Minn. / Monticello) will be playing in their final regular season games of their careers, including their final home game on Saturday. These two seniors will go out as the winningest class in St. Kate's program history and will hold a multitude of school records, include those listed in the five facts below:

132 – Rohr and Kurvers have made a huge impact since joining the Wildcats last season. In a combined 132 games, they have compiled a combined .383 batting average, 159 hits, 94 runs batted in (RBIs), and 114 runs during their two years at St. Kate's.

5 – Rohr has hit five home runs as a Wildcat, two of which were grand slams. Both grand slams have occurred this season and are Rohr's only home runs of 2016. The shortstop went deep with the bases juiced during the team's spring break trip to Florida, then again on April 10 in a 12-6 come-from-behind win over Bethel University.

2 – Kurvers' lone home run in 2015 was one of the most clutch hits in St. Kate's softball history. Down 6-5 to the University of St. Thomas in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on, Kurvers came up to the plate and hit a blast over the left center wall. The walk off home run gave the Wildcats their first win over the Tommies in program history. Kurvers hit her other career home run against St. Olaf this season.

2015 – Rohr and Kurvers both earned honors from the MIAC in 2015. Rohr was named All-MIAC after her breakout season and Kurvers was St. Kate's representative on the 2015 MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

2 – Rohr and Kurvers have a permanent place in St. Kate's softball record books. Rohr already holds the school record for runs in a single season (43) and is second all-time for hits in a single season (53). At the end of this season, Rohr and Kurvers are both projected to be in the top-15 in St. Kate's history in career batting average.

Live stats will be available for the Wildcats doubleheaders at Macalester and verses Saint Ben's, and video will be available for the doubleheader against Macalester as well. Be sure to check out Twitter for updates at @stkatesathletics.
