Wildcats open busy end of season with Concordia, UW-Eau Claire

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University softball team received a much deserved break these past few days, and with the season coming to an end, those days off will be greatly appreciated. On Saturday, the Wildcats begin a stretch of the season where they will play six doubleheaders in nine days.

Frist up, St. Kate's will host Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe Concordia-Moorhead College in a doubleheader that may establish their place at the top of the conference standings. Then, on Sunday, the Wildcats will travel to Wisconsin to face the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (WIAC) University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Blue Golds in one of their final two nonconference games of the season.
Here are the five facts to know before the Wildcats busy weekend ensues:

6 – St. Kate's received a six day break between doubleheaders this week, thanks to the weather. The last game the Wildcats played was on Sunday, April 17 when they split their doubleheader against MIAC rival Hamline. St. Kate's was supposed to play Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Wednesday, but the doubleheader was postponed due to rain.

28.3 Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) pitched 28.3 consecutive shutout innings between April 10 and April 17, which is the longest streak in St. Kate's history. The sophomore pitched two one-hitters during the stretch and shutout top MIAC teams Bethel University and the University of St. Thomas.

152 – Concordia's Abigail Haraldson has struck out 152 batters this season, the second most strikeouts in the MIAC. In 27 appearances on the mound, Haraldson has made 23 starts with one shutout and three saves.

43 – St. Kate's scored 43 runs while only allowing eight last week. The Wildcats played four doubleheaders in six days against St. Thomas, Carleton, Augsburg, and Hamline.

5 – It has been five years since UW-Eau Claire and St. Kate's last played each other. The two teams met in Tucson, Arizona in March of 2011 during a spring break trip, with the Blue Golds winning the single game 10-0.
