Wildcats look to stay unbeaten in home opener against UW-River Falls

ST. PAUL, MINN. – To say the St. Catherine University softball team is off to a hot start might be a bit of an understatement. The Wildcats have yet to lose a game this season and are not only one of the top teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), but in the national as well. After a week in Clermont, Florida, St. Kate's returns to St. Paul for their first home game of the season as they host the University of Wisconsin River Falls today at 3 p.m.

Before first pitch, there are plenty of things to know about this season's Wildcat softball team:

12 – St. Kate's has now won 12 straight games to start the season with a perfect 12-0 record for the first time in program history. The last time the Wildcats started the season undefeated was in 2013. St. Kate's started the season 5-0 that year before dropping their first game to the University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point.

20 – The Wildcats are currently the No. 20 softball team in all of Division III, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. St. Kate's received votes in two of the last three NFCA Division III Polls and finally broke through last weekend. The Wildcats received 38 votes total to tie with Rowan College for the No. 20 spot in the poll.

0.38 – Sophomore ace Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) has the lowest earned run average (ERA) in the MIAC of 0.38. Flugstad has allowed just 2 runs in 36.2 innings of work and has yet to lose a game this season. She has also pitched three complete games, three of which are shutouts, struck out 55 batters, and allowed just 20 hits and 14 walks.

.522 – Senior Robyn Rohr's (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville North) batting average (BA) during St. Kate's spring trip to Clermont, Florida. Rohr went 12-23 at the plate for the Wildcats during the trip, scored in six of the team's eight games and took six walks during the week. Thanks to Rohr's clutch hitting, including a one out grand slam in an 11-2 win over Elmhurst College, St. Kate's did not drop a game in Florida and finished the trip with a solid 8-0 record. Rohr was named Wildcat of the Week for her performance in Florida.

8 – St. Kate's and UW-River Falls already met once this season. The Wildcats defeated the Falcons 8-0 in the first game of the season at the Rochester Community Technical College (RCTC) Dome on February 27. Flugstad pitched a complete game one-hitter while the offensive went 5-18 at the plate with 10 walks and only four strikeouts.

First pitch of game one between St. Kate's and UW-River Falls is slated to happen at 3 p.m. with game two to follow. Both games will be available online via live stats
