ST. PAUL, MINN. – After three hard fought games against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes, the St. Catherine University basketball team looks to get back on the winning track in tonight's game against visiting University of Wisconsin Superior. The Yellow Jackets will be the Wildcats last nonconference opponent of the season as they play in the neighboring Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
Here are five things you need to know about tonight's game:
10 – The number of combined points St. Kate's has lost by in their last three games. The Wildcats played MIAC co-leaders St. Thomas and Saint Mary's in back-to-back contests and held the lead at some point throughout the game. Unfortunately, the Tommies were able to come back to win 72-67, and the Cardinals free throw shooting lead to a 62-60 victory in the final seconds of the game. History seemed to repeat itself in St. Kate's most recent game against Augsburg, as the Auggies took a 64-61 lead on free throws in the final seconds.
1,033 – In Wednesday night's game against Saint Mary's, junior guard/forward
LaShay Holt scored her 1000 career point in the first quarter. Holt, who has not started for the Wildcats this season, came off the bench and scored five quick points to reach the milestone, and ended up scoring a team-leading 26 in the game. She is just the seventh player to achieve the milestone, and her 1,033 career points is good for seventh all-time in St. Kate's record books.
1st and 4th – The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 305-261 in the first quarter and 363-344 in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, St. Kate's second and third period totals are not as favorable. The Wildcats tend to be outscored 302-314 and 32-343 in the middle quarters of the game.
16 – UW-Superior's current winning streak. Since losing to Saint Ben's in early November, the Yellow Jackets have gone 16-0 and are a perfect 13-0 in conference play. Their closest game of the season since the loss to the Blazers was not actually all that close. Superior beat conference rival Northwestern (Minn.) 60-50 on January 16. Since then, they have not allowed opponents to get within 11 points of their lead.
