ST. PAUL, MINN. – Three games in seven days was no challenge for the St. Catherine University basketball team. The Wildcats went 3-0 on the week, with home wins over UW-Superior and Saint Benedict and a road victory over Macalester. In fact, it was one of the best scoring weeks for St. Kate's all season, accompanied by strong play on the defensive end.
The Wildcats hope their strong play on both sides of the ball continues tonight when they host the Concordia Cobbers at 7 p.m. It will be St. Kate's final home game of the 2015-16 season and the Wildcats hope to send senior
Shauna Horsch (Inver grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) off with one final victory in the
Butler Center.
Before that, though, make sure to prepare for tonight's game with these facts and numbers:
89 – Number of games Horsch has played in throughout her career as a Wildcat. The senior transferred to St. Kate's the second semester of her freshman year and had an immediate impact on the team. Overall, Horsch has scored 635 points and pulled in 311 rebounds during her career. She also has 103 total assists and 131 steals.
61 – Number of steals Horsch had as a junior in 2014-15, which is fifth all-time in St. Kate's history for steals in a single season.
14 - Number of free throws Horsch made in an 85-78 loss to Gustavus on January 24, 2015. In the game, Horsch scored a career high 28 points, half of which were from made free throws. Horsch is a 70% free throw shooter for her career and is second all-time for most free throws made in a single game (14-14 against Gustavus).
19.7 – Junior guard
LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) averaged 19.7 points and 10.3 rebounds last week. Holt opened the week with 22 points against UW-Superior, added 19 in the win over Saint Ben's, and finished the week with 18 against Macalester. She also pulled in 12 rebounds twice against the Yellow Jackets and Scots and added seven against the Blazers. For her fantastic week, the junior earned Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week honors and was named to D3hoops.com Team of the Week.
25 – Number of consecutive points St. Kate's scored in the fourth quarter against Macalester on Saturday. The Wildcats opened the final quarter of the game with a 25-0 run, spurred by Horsch's three point bucket in the opening seconds. St. Kate's defense was also spectacular in the 81-57 win, holding the Scots to just seven points in the fourth quarter.
Bonus number: 50.6 – Concordia forward Jenna Januschka's shooting percentage, which is fifth best in the MIAC. Januschka has been one of the top shooters in the conference all season and was on top of her game when the two teams met on January 20. The junior from St. Cloud scored 20 points in the Cobbers 69-47 win over the Wildcats and was 7-14 from the floor, 1-1 from behind the arc, and 5-8 from the free throw line.
