Hot-hitting Scots hand Wildcats two MIAC setbacks

Jessica Tyminski went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI to lead the Wildcats against Macalester
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 After two days in a row of canceled games, the St. Catherine University softball team was looking forward to finally getting back in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action against a Macalester College squad with the hopes of ending a six-game losing streak. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't slow down one of the hottest-hitting teams in the MIAC as the Scots piled on the offense for 7-0 and 15-3 victories over the Wildcats Friday afternoon at Macalester in St. Paul.

Despite a three-hit effort for the Wildcats from Jessica Tyminski (Champlin, Minn.), the Wildcats couldn't string together their offense as they left a total of 18 runners on base between the two contests. Defensively, the Wildcats committed just one error, but couldn't find an answer to the powerful Scot bats that tallied 24 hits on the day.

In game one, the Wildcats got the bats going first as Larrissa Karl (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) hit her first of two doubles on the day in the top of the second. Rachael Thompson (St. Peter, Minn.) then picked up her first of two hits to move Karl in scoring position. The Wildcats couldn't find a way to bring either runner in allowing the Scots a chance to take a 1-0 lead after two.

Raven Baker (Minneapolis, Minn.) picked up a single off a bunt at the top of the third, but was left on by her fellow teammates. The Scots then piled on five runs in the third thanks to a two-RBI double from one of the league's top hitters in Miranda Stokes and a three-run homer from Cleo Nagy. From there, the Scots never looked back en route to victory.

In game two, the Scots got going early with two runs in the first before putting together a 10-run second inning to take an early 12-0 lead after two innings before eventually adding three more in the fourth. The Wildcats managed to score once in the third inning on an RBI single from Tyminski. She then scored the Wildcats' second run of the day in the top of the fifth on a ground-out RBI from Karl. Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) crossed the plate for the final Wildcat run on a RBI single from Alyssa Besch (Lakeville, Minn.).

Tyminski finished game two 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI. She also had a double in the game opener and a walk. Kaitlyn Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) was also a perfect 2-for-2 in game two.

With seven at bats on the day, senior Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) collected another school record. This time, Luedtke moved to 446 career at bats to surpass Kelly Wallentiny's previous record 445 set in 2007.

With the losses the Wildcats fall to 7-23 on the season and 5-13 in the MIAC. The Wildcats will have one day off before returning to action Sunday against the College of Saint Benedict at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
