Softball ends spring trip with losses to Thomas, Williams

Jessica Tyminski picked up a hit and RBI in the loss to Williams Sunday
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 After having its final games in Florida rained out Saturday, the St. Catherine University softball team hoped it could end on a winning note in two make up games against Thomas and Williams Colleges. Unfortunately, the Wildcats came up just short in 5-2 loss to Thomas before losing 16-4 in five innings against Williams Sunday in Clermont, Fla.

The Wildcats opened the first game in competitive fashion as Wildcats held Thomas scoreless through three innings behind the top pitching of Rachael Thompson (St. Pater, Minn.) who gave up just three hits and no earned runs in the loss on the mound. Unfortunately, an error-filled fourth inning allowed Thomas to score four times to take a lead they would never surrender, despite two one-run innings in each the fifth and sixth from the Wildcats.

Leading the way against Thomas was Raven Baker (Minneapolis, Minn.) who went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. Caitlin DeWitt (Stillwater, Minn.) picked up the Wildcats' other run and also had two walks at the plate. Erin Fitzpatrick (White Bear Lake, Minn.) also picked up a hit on her lone at bat as the pinch hitter.

Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) picked up a double for her fifth of the season, while both Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) and Kaitlyn Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) picked up sacrifice hits for the Wildcats.

In the loss to Williams, the Wildcats picked up four runs on four hits with Lindsey Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) leading the way with a hit and two RBI in the team's four-run fifth inning. Alyssa Luedtke fueled the Wildcats' attempt at a comeback in the final inning with an RBI, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats couldn't overcome a fourth inning in which they allowed Williams 13 runs. Luedtke also picked up a hit as did Jessica Tyminski (Champlin, Minn.) and Baker. Tyminski added an RBI, while Baker had one of the team's four runs.

The Wildcats' MIAC season opener scheduled for Tuesday against the College of Saint Benedict has been postponed until a later date due to unplayable field conditions. Next up, the Wildcats are scheduled to take on St. Olaf College Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
