Box Score 2 After a day off of competition, the St. Catherine University softball team hoped it could pick up two more wins with just four games to go on its spring trip. Despite a strong effort and improvement, the Wildcats fell 9-4 to Calvin College and narrowly lost 4-3 to Concordia University (Mich.) Friday in Clermont, Fla.
In the first game against Calvin, Head Coach
Colleen Powers said the Wildcats had a chance, but "(the team) got complacent with a one run lead in the second half of the game and were not able to hang on. There were still some bright spots offensively and defensively for us."
The Wildcats received top hitting from
Jessica Tyminski (Champlin, Minn.) who went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two of the Wildcats four runs against Calvin. All three of her hits were doubles including an RBI hit to get the Wildcats on the board in the first inning.
Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) also picked up a critical RBI double in the third inning to give the Wildcats a lead they couldn't hold on to, while
Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) and
Erin Fitzpatrick (White Bear Lake, Minn.) each picked up a hit.
Against Concordia, the Wildcats "just ran out of innings," said Powers. "This team has come a long way in the last week. What is exciting is that you can't ever count them out of a game. They will fight hard through seven innings."
Caitlin DeWitt (Stillwater, Minn.) had a career-best performance at the plate for the Wildcats with going 3-for-3 which included a hit in the seventh to give the Wildcats a chance for the comeback.
Lindsey Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) also had a hit and an RBI to help the Wildcat offense, while
Raven Baker (Minneapolis, Minn.) added a hit and a run.
The Wildcats wrap up their final spring break games in Clermont with a doubleheader against Thomas College at 8 and 10 a.m.
