On the second day of its spring break trip, the St. Catherine University tennis team continued to roll past its southern opponents with another impressive win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. With the 8-1 decision over the Crusaders, the Wildcats extended their winning streak to five-consecutive matches and improved to 8-2 on the season Tuesday in Belton, Texas.
The Wildcats again dominated doubles play with three wins including a 8-2 decision from
Victoria Bravo (Tucson, Ariz.) and
Kylie Ketcho (Edina, Minn.) at No. 1 singles to remain undefeated this season.
Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis.) and
Mikinzee Salo (Brainerd, Minn.) also left their No. 2 doubles record untouched with a 8-3 decision over Angelie Juaneza and Ashlee Bilbo.
At the No. 3 spot,
Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn.) and
Megan Buysse (Redwood Falls, Minn.) had their work cut out for them, though, against Haley Hicks and Lizzie Ostroff. The pair eventually picked up their fifth win of the season after battling to an 8-6 decision.
In singles play, Bravo continued her perfect play at the top spot for the Wildcats. With her 6-0, 6-1 striaght-set victory over Chaley Schiffer, Bravo extended her singles winning streak to eight in a row. Her win was also her eighth of the season and 23rd of her two-year career with the Wildcats.
Koval picked up her fifth-straight and seventh win of the season as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Bilbo at No. 2 singles, while Salo also extended her win streak to five. After cruising to a 6-0 decision in the first set, Salo battled Juaneza at the No. 4 spot to a 7-6 second-set win after a 7-3 tiebreaker.
Knoll and Buysse each recorded their third win as many matches with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Knoll defeated Ostroff 6-4, 6-3, while Buysse took down Hicks 6-1, 6-2.
The Wildcats wrap up their spring break trip Wednesday with a match up against the University of Texas at Dallas. The match is scheudled to begin at 3 p.m.
