Wildcats can't slow down MIAC's leading scorer in loss to Hamline

LaShay Holt (44) pulls down a rebound en route to her third double-double of the season against the Pipers
Box Score After narrowly dropping a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest to Hamline University at the hands of league-leading scorer Jordan Sammons just over a week ago, the St. Catherine University basketball team hoped it could slow down the Pipers to pick up a much-needed conference win. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't stop Sammons – who scored 21 points – to lift the Pipers to a 59-48 victory Wednesday night at Hutton Arena in St. Paul.

The Wildcats again struggled from the field shooting just 39.5 percent and couldn't find a way to get going offensively, despite holding a 41-29 advantage in rebounds over the Pipers. The Wildcats struggled to maintain offensive possession to create scoring opportunitites, though, as they committed a season-high 27 turnovers.

LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn.) posted her third career double-double performance during her rookie season with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Kennedy Jennings (Des Moines, Minn.) also had a double-double – her first as a Wildcat – with a team-high 11 points and 11 rebounds to follow Holts' 12 boards. For the second time in three games, Jennings has been the Wildcats' leading scorer in a single game and scored in double digits. Holt also had a team-high four steals, while Jennings had two of the team's four blocks.

Shauna Horsch (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) matched Jennings' 11 points for a team-high performance to match her career-best point total for the third time this season. She went 2-for-3 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe to lead the Wildcats from an efficiency standpoint. The sophomore also had a team-best three assists and added a steal.

Sarah manning (Page, Ariz.) had one of her better performances in recent weeks going 3-for-4 from the field for seven points. She also added three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Sammons led the Pipers in scoring with 21 points and seven rebounds shooting 50 percent from the field.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday at home against second-place Concordia College at 3 p.m. in the Butler Center
