Wildcats' 14 3-pointers not enough in loss to St. Olaf

Kristen Lee made four of the Wildcats' 14 3-pointers in a loss to the Oles Monday
Box Score Two weeks ago, the St. Catherine University basketball team made an impressive 12 baskets from 3-point range but it wasn't enough to slow down a Gustavus Adolphus College squad in suffering a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) loss. This Monday, the Wildcats out did themselves – making 14 shots from beyond the arc – but couldn't overcome an early first-half deficit in falling 70-54 to St. Olaf College at the Skoglund Center in Northfield, Minn.

Though the Wildcats drained 14 shots from 3-point range and shot 75 percent from the charity stripe, they shot just 37 percent from the field as opposed to the Oles' 46.2 percent. They also found themselves on the short side of a 40-19 advantage in rebounds in favor of St. Olaf.

The Wildcats' 14-made baskets from beyond the arc is the most in a single game for the program since a 90-71 loss to the Oles seven years ago when the Wildcats made 13 from 3-point range on Feb. 7, 2007. The 14-made shots is also a program record since the revival of the Wildcats' basketball team in the 1990s.

Leading the the 3-point shooting for the Wildcats was Kristen Lee (Dawson, Minn.) who drained four for the fourth-time this season in a MIAC contest. The senior finished the game with 12 points and two assists. This was Lee's fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season.

LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn.) also contributed to the 3-point effort as she went 3-for-5 and finished the game with a team-high 15 points. The first-year did a majority of the team's rebounding with six boards, while also recording two assists and a steal for her 13th double-digit scoring performance during her rookie season.

Jenna Mistler (Austin, Texas) had her best 3-point performance of the season matching Holt's 3-for-5 for nine points, while Abby Torgerson (Anoka, Minn.) was 2-for-5 for six points. Both Mistler and Torgerson added two assists.

Kim Cerjan led the Oles with 24 points, while Elise Raney scored 13 and went 5-for-6 from the field.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday as they travel across town for a rematch with Hamline University Wednesday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hutton Arena in St. Paul.
