Box Score Coming off a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win over Macalester College Saaturday, the St. Catherine University basketball team hoped it could close out its road-portion of the 2013-14 season with a win, but knew it would be a tall order against a Bethel University squad that clinched a postseason berth after posting the biggest turn around in MIAC women's basketball history.
Despite strong performances from several Wildcats, they couldn't find a way to slow down the strong, powerful Bethel offense and a slow start in falling 70-37 Wednesday evening in Arden Hills, Minn.
Though the Wildcats held the Royals to a 9-9 tie just before the midway mark of the first half, the Royals went on a 18-6 run to end the half with a 27-15 lead. The Wildcats then allowed the Bethel offense to get going en route to their 16th MIAC victory of the season thanks to their 51 percent shooting performance for the night.
Leading the way offensively for the Wildcats was Shauna Horch (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) who tied her season and career-best scoring performance with a team-best 11 points. The sophomore also added three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Horsch was also the Wildcats' top 3-point shooter as she went 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
After scoring a career-best 28 points against the Scots Saturday,
LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn.) was held to just seven points, but pulled in a team-best nine rebounds to lead Wildcats on defense. The first-year also had two assists and a team-best three steals.
Kristen Lee (Dawson, Minn.) had a team-best three assists and three steals, while also adding four points to the Wildcat total. Little sister
Mari Lee (Dawson, Minn.) had five boards and a team-high three blocks. She also went 2-for-3 from the field for four points.
Leading the way for the Royals was one of the league's top players in Rachel Parupsky who had 16 points and seven boards, while Katelyn Vavra added 10 points and went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats will wrap up the season at home for senior night against Gustavus Adolphus College. Game time is set for 3 p.m. Saturday in the
Butler Center.
