Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball comes up just short in 3-1 MIAC loss to Concordia

After losing five matches in a row, the St. Catherine University volleyball team had a great chance to end that streak as it faced off for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match against a Concordia College squad that has been fairly inconcsistent throughout the season. Unfortunately, the Wildcats managed to rally for a third set win but couldn't maintain that momentum in falling 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19) to the Cobbers Wednesday evening in front of a packed crowd in the Butler Center

The Wildcats brushed off a forgettable first set loss and rallied to nearly take the second. Then, they managed to take over in the third set hitting .219 as a team to force a decisive fourth set. After exchanging points back and forth to open the final game, the Cobbers slowly started to pull away before finishing off the Wildcats 25-19 for their third MIAC win of the season.

Megan Lindenfelser (Nowthen, Minn./Anoka) just missed recorded a double-double as she collected a team-best 11 kills and added nine digs to her solid performance. The first-year committed just two errors all night and added two assists to her effort, while Shelby Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake) also came up big with nine kills and seven digs. She also tallied two of the team's eight service aces on the night.

Jana Christensen (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) had one of her strongest hitting performances of the season with an eight-kill, zero error effort for a monster .615 attacking percentage. She also collected a solo block, block assist and two digs to complete her stat line for the evening, while Alyssa Besch (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) also had eight kills, four digs, two solo blocks, a block assist, a service ace and an assist.

Amber Zeiher (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had a team-best four blocks, while first-year Bailey Auseth (Wanamingo, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo) had a career-best 15 digs to lead the Wildcats defensively. Karsee Knutson (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer) and Ashley Kahlow (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) fueled the offense with 17 and 14 assists, respectively. Kahlow added eight digs and an ace to her performance, while Knutson had two digs and two service aces.

Kynndyl Ross led the match with 12 kills for the Cobbers, while Olivia Wangensteen and Anna Skow-Anderson each added 10. Kelly Reed contributed to five of the Cobbers' nine blocks on the night, while Alyssa Schmidt had a match-best 23 digs.

The Wildcats will not return to action until next week as the host MIAC foe Carleton College for a 7 p.m. match in the Butler Center
