Coming off a big win over UW-River Falls in the opneing weekend of the 2013 season, the St. Catherine University hoped it could pick up its second win of theseason but knew it wouldn't be an easy task as the young squad faced a tough UW-Whitewater team which was ranked No. 3 in the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) North Region heading into this weekend's matchup.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't find a way to stop the high-powered Warhawk offense in a 3-0 non-conference loss Sunday in Whitewater, Wis.

But Head Coach Chris Citowicki wasn't disappointed with the way his inexperienced team played against the NCAA tournament perrenial Whitewater team. "I am happy with the effort put forth by the team," Citowicki said. "We missed a couple of chances early and got punished with it at the end of the first half.

"I am not too upset about the loss. We gave 100 perent and fot beat by a better team. We couldn't ask for too much more from our players."

Despite its best efforts, the Wildcats only managed to take four total shots and suffered 14 team fouls against the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) preseason women's soccer favorite UW-Whitewater.

The Wildcats managed to hold off the high-powered Warhawk offense through the first 34 minutes before first-year Carly Pottle scored her first of two goals in less than two minutes on sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Mendez (Bloomington, Minn.). Mendez finished the night with a save on the Warhawks' four shots on goal.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was senior forward Lensa gurmess (Minneapolis, Minn.) who managed two of the Wildcats four shots on goal, while Nina Bukowski (Two Harbors, Minn.) and Allison Hawkins (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) each posted one shot on goal.

The Wildcats return to non-conference play Saturday as they welcome UW-Superior to St. Catherine Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in St. Paul.
