Volleyball can't get past Bethel defense in 3-0 loss

Jana Christensen (left) had six kills against the Royals Saturday and hit .211
Box Score The St. Catherine University volleyball team will continue to search for its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win as it couldn't get past a tough Bethel University defense in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-13) loss Saturday afternoon in Arden Hills, Minn.

The Royals managed to block the Wildcats' hitters eight times and put together a balanced offensive attack with a .270 attacking day. Despite a usually strong blocking and serving attack, the Wildcats managed just three blocks and one ace against the Royals who improve to 2-2 in MIAC play.

Leading the way offensively for the Wildcats was first-year Abigail Palmer (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) with eight kills, five digs and the only Wildcat ace. Jana Christiansen (North Mankato, Minn.) had one of the top hitting days with a .211 attacking percentage and six kills, while Alyssa Besch (Lakeville, Minn.) had four kills and assisted on two of the three team blocks.

Setter Karsee Knutson (New London, Minn.) had a solid performance with 17 assists and eight digs, while libero Shanee Herd (Alexandria, Minn.) had a team-best 12 digs and Shelby Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn.) chipped in nine.

The Wildcats return to conference action Wednesday a perfect 4-0 Concordia College squad at 7 p.m. in Moorhead, MInn.
