Box Score 2 After rolling to a quick 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-8) victory over Crown College to open its home tournament, the St. Catherine University volleyball team fell to UW-Stout in heartbreaking fashion 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 12-15) after coming back down two sets to one Friday night at the St. Kate's Invite at the
Butler Center in St. Paul.
In the first match against Crown, the Wildcats posted their best attacking day so far this season as they compiled a .403 hitting percentage. Leading the way was junior
Zoe Peterson (Rosemount, Minn.) who hit .667 with four kills in just six attempts and no errors.
Middle blocker
Amber Zeiher (LeSueur, Minn.) had a match-high 10 kills against the storm, hit .438 and had one solo block. She finished the day with a team-high 15 kills and also added six digs and three block assists.
First-year
Maddy Mullins (Caledonia, Minn.) compiled eight kills against Crown and led the team with four of its 11 service aces. She finished the day with 13 kills and six digs, while
Jana Christensen (North Mankato, Minn.) and Peterson each finished the day with 13 kills a piece.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats managed to collect 14 services aces and 5.5 total team blocks to continue their strong performances in both categories. Leading the way in aces in the loss to UW-Stout was
Shanee Herd (Alexandria, Minn.) with four. The libero finished the day with 27 digs including a team-high 20 against the Blue Devils.
Setters
Ashley Kahlow (LeSueur, Minn.) and
Karsee Knutson (New London, Minn.) both served up three service aces a piece, while Kahlow led the Wildcats with 34 assists and Knutson was just behind with 27.
Defenisively,
Shelby Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn.) and
Abigail Palmer (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) had strong performances from the back row with 19 and 16 digs, respectively.
The Wildcats finish the day at 1-1 and face Loras College to open day two of the St. Kate's Invite at 11 a.m. before taking on UW-Superior at 1 p.m. Highlights from day one action can be found on the
