Tennis gets back on winning track with 7-2 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mikinzee Salo picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles
After a slight hiccup against the Unviersity of Texas at Dallas on Monday, the St. Catherine University tennis team got back on track with an impressive 7-2 win over the No. 19-ranked team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region - the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor - Tuesday evening in Belton, Texas.

The Wildcats were able to pick up wins in 2-of-3 doubles matches to return to their impressive pair play they have maintained most of the season. However, the wins looked slightly different thanks to pairing changes in the lineup to maintain an 84.8 team winning percentage this season.

This time, the top doubles win came from Mikinzee Salo (Brainerd, Minn.) and Kylie Ketcho (Edina, Minn.) at the No. 3 spot as they took down Angelie Juaneza and Penelope Kittel 8-1, while Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis.) and Angie Lorenzen (Mitchell, S.D.) picked up an 8-6 win at the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, Salo and Koval each picked up shutout, straight-set wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 spots, respectively. This is the second time this season that both players have picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play.

Lorenzen also turned in a top singles performance at the No. 5 position with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Juaneza, while Michaela Burroughs (Waterloo, Neb.) handed Hannah Warren a 6-1, 6-3 setback at No. 2 singles.

Ketcho played a three-set thriller with Hardin-Baylor's Caley Shiffler to come up with her sixth singles win of the season at the No. 4 spot. The sophomore took the first set 6-1 before falling 5-7 in the second to send the match to a super tiebreaker. She then narrowly escaped a loss with a close 10-8 victory to help propel her team to its 10th victory of the season.

The Wildcats will play their final spring break match against Southwestern University Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas.
