After suffering its first two losses of the season on Saturday, the St. Catherine University softball team rebounded with a 4-1 win over Oberlin College and a 10-6 victory over the University of Southern Maine thanks to impressive pitching in both games to improve to 7-2 Sunday in Clermont, Fla.
In the 4-1 win over Oberlin to open up the day, senior
Morgan Bohmbach (Red Wing, Minn.) pitched a complete game for her second win of the season and held the Wildcats' opponent scoreless through six and two-third innings. She also stuck out five Oberlin batters in the win.
First year
Alyssa Besch (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored two of the four Wildcat runs to lead the team offensively in the first game, while
Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) hit a double and had the lone Wildcat RBI against Oberlin.
In her first collegiate start,
Caitlin DeWitt (Stillwater, Minn.) picked up a hit as the designated hitter and also scored a run, while
Shae Elliott (Richfield, Minn.) picked up a hit and the first Wildcat run of the game.
Against Southern Maine, first year
Becky Hanson (Brookfield, Wis.) picked up her first collegiate win after pitching four complete, shut-out innings for the Wildcats. She allowed just three hits and stuck out one batter.
Jenna Brady (Greenfield, Minn.) continued to be a force at the plate as she went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to help the Wildcats to their seventh win of the season. McKee also chipped in a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to bring
Raven Baker (Minneapolis, Minn.) across the plate for one of her two runs in the game, while senior
Regan Kriechbaum (Faribault, Minn.) chipped in three RBI.
The Wildcats had an impressive day base running as Baker, Brady, McKee and
Kaitlyn Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) each stole a base.
The Wildcats will take one day off before returning to action Tuesday for two more spring break games. The first game against the Indiana Institute of Technology is scheduled for 11 a.m., while the second game against Colby College is slated for 1 p.m.
