Softball opens up spring trip with wins over Manchester, Framingham State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Coming off an impressive win over Crown College on Wednesday, the St. Catherine University softball team headed into its spring trip with some confidence that it would be successful.

The Wildcats used that early-season confidence to pull off two big wins over Manchester University (9-7) and Framingham State College (10-4) to open up their annual spring trip Friday morning at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

In the 9-7 win over Manchester, Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) sparked the Wildcat scoring as she went 4-for-5 at the plate with three hits including a double.

Jenna Brady (Greenfield, Minn.) also had an impressive performance as she went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while senior Shae Elliott (Richfield, Minn.) had two hits and two RBI.

Morgan Bohmbach (Red Wing, Minn.) picked up her first win of the season at the mound, while first-year Lindsey Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) came in for the save.

After going 6-for-6 in the Wildcats' opening doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran College in late February, Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) has continued to be a force at the plate and Friday's matchup versus Framingham State was no exception. In the second game of the day, McKee had three hits and made it on base a fourth time due to an error. She also had one RBI.

Brady was also impressive in the second game as she hit a double and scored three runs, while Klein was 2-for-3 with an RBI as the designated hitter.

Courtney Stender (Belle Plaine, Minn.) came in for pitching relief and picked up her second win of the season. The junior gave up just two hits and struck out four batters.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point and Elmhurst College. Games are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. (EST), respectively, in Clermont, Fla.
