Box Score Coming off a strong stretch of matches at the UW-Whitewater tournament last weekend, the St. Catherine University volleyball team hoped it could carry some of its momentum back into Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play this week against Saint Mary's University.
 
Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't overcome hitting errors or slow down the Cardinals' attack – despite another strong defensive performance –in suffering a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-21) loss Friday evening in the Butler Center.
 
The Wildcats compiled 46 total digs and put up six blocks to the Cardinal attack, but couldn't find a way to stop two of the league's top hitters in Alex Peterson and Mary Nordick who each hit .500 on the night and combined for 22 kills.
 
After earning the MIAC Setter-of-the-Week nod on Tuesday, Karsee Knutson (New London, Minn.) showed why she has been so valuable for the Wildcats as she dished out 24 assists and led the team with 12 digs. The junior also added to the blocking efforts with a block assist and picked up a service ace.
 
Jana Christensen (North Mankato, Minn.) continued to lead the Wildcats in kills with seven, while Abigail Palmer (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) had six kills and five digs.
 
In the middle, Amber Zeiher (LeSueur, Minn.) knocked down four kills with a team best hitting percentage of .273. She also assisted on four of the Wildcats' blocks, while Alyssa Besch (Lakeville, Minn.) and Zoe Peterson (Rosemount, Minn.) each added two.
 
The Wildcats held the advantage in services aces with five – four of which came off the hot hand of Marnie Gubash (Blaine, Minn.).
 
Tomorrow, the Wildcats return to MIAC action – this time on the road at Macalester College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in the Leonard Center in St. Paul.
