With a busy first two weekends of games behind them, the Wildcats looked forward to finally starting conference play on Wednesday against Carleton College. The Knights were picked to finish first in the MIAC in the preseason coaches poll, and they backed up that confidence against the Wildcats on Wednesday, defeating the home team 5-0. Carleton moved to 3-2 on the season (1-0 MIAC) while the Wildcats fell to 1-6 (0-1).
Carleton's offensive tandem of Lily Vanderstaay and Zoe Suche were too much for the Wildcat defense this afternoon, with each scoring two goals and Vanderstaay adding an assist. The Wildcats were able to rein in the Carleton attack a bit in the first half, going into halftime with a 2-0 deficit, but they were unable to notch a score of their own. Cassie Burke made it 3-0 midway through the second half, and in the last ten minutes of play the Knights put the game out of reach with two more scores.
The Wildcats face another tough MIAC test on Saturday as they head to St. Thomas for a 1:00 PM contest.
